Greg

Spring 2010 Kodiak island brown bear hunt

This is a 10 day 1×1 guided hunt being conducted from a heated tent camp situated on an ocean beach. The camp is accessed by boat and a 14ft inflatable raft. The hunter is provided with a 10X hurricane hut tent with a sleeping cot, air mattress, directors chair, propane heater, lantern, and a luggable loo… ( toilet). All meals will be prepared and served in a separate tent.

The method of hunting is spot and stalk from elevated observation points in the immediate vacinity of camp.

The hunter will rise in the morning at 5:30 am and turn in at 9:30 pm in the evening.

The terrain consists of ocean beaches, tidal flats, rolling tundra, grassy parks and benches dispersed through alder patches, and open hill sides with southern exposures.

Trophy bears are migrating from mountainess terrain to lower elevations feeding on tubers, voles, carrion from winter kills, and searching for sows to mate with. Ocean beaches are attractive to bears for carion as well.

Mature boars take naps for up to 10 hours during the middle part of the day and continue their search for food and sows in heat all night.

Bill Burton, Kodiak Game ranch, will contract the hunt and sign the hunt record. The hunt is conducted by my guide using my camps.

An average brown bear taken on a guided hunt in this area will square 9′ +. I have guided hunters to 10′ + plus bears in this area in the past and Bill has killed more bears here than any man alive today.

The hunt includes:

- 1×1 guide service

- care and preparation for shipping of trophies

- all meals and snacks

- transportation to and from the airport.

- transportation into and out of camp.

Not included in the hunt:

- Accomadations and meals before and after the hunt… the hunter will stay at a Bed and

Breakfest in town the night before we go into camp.

- All cost associated with accomadatons and meals due to weather delays before going into

 the field before the hunt.

- Hunting license ($85) and metal locking brown bear tag ($500)

- Cost of shipping trophies to an expeditor in Anchorage

Hunt date:

April 1st-10th

The hunter must be in Kodiak 2 days prior to the hunt to register with Fish and Game during business hours (8am t5pm) monday thru friday.

Please refer to the menu found on the home page of my web site for the list of “what to bring”, discription of “what to expect” on the hunt, links to Anchrage area hotels for lay overs before coming to Kodiak, and commercial air carriers servicing Kodiak with regularly scheduled daily flights.

There are 2 jet flights a day with Alaska Airlines and 2 or 3 flights a day with Era Aviation. The cost of a round trip flight into Kodiak is around $350.

Payment must be paid in full upon booking the hunt.

Price of the hunt:

$12,000

Please refer to my web site for photo’s of bears taken in this area in the past during the spring season… The photo of a bear in the snow on the top line of photo’s, ( 2009 Kodiak)…The bear laying in a stream with myself and the hunter behind it…not the hunter in a cowboy hat. ( 2000 Kodiak)… The bear on its back in the stream was taken in the fall and was the 4th largest bear ever recorded at the Fish and Game office in Kodiak since records were started in 1952.
