Here is an update from our outfitter as to how the fishing is going on the Rio Negro. I can not wait for February to get here, be sure to get your spot reserved and go with our group. Greg Ray 918 407 2586
As we opened the 18th season of peacock bass fishing our anglers had the ideal fishing opportunity to start off the season. The river has been dropping steadily, and the beaches are all showing. Like one of our guest mentioned “It was well worth the wait by not having to come last season with high water and I’ll say to the rest you should come down too”.
The count for the week was 1661 peacock bass total with 98 being 10 lbs. or better and 14 of those being 20 lbs. or better.
The week started off with big numbers and soon the fish were coming in bigger and bigger and as the days past on and our new anglers got into the rhythm of chopping. 80% of the group landed 15lb. plus monsters with 50%0. landing 20lb. plus trophies, not to mention the ones that got away.
This week’s monster Peacock Bass goes to Mark Upchurch at 24.5 pounds (click hereto see the rest of the photos of the week).
Right behind him was Mack with a 23-pounder, and Don with a 22-pounder. Mack also landed a total of 14 fish over 10lbs. I guess he got even after the first big fish that took the skin off the back of his hand with its gill plate.
John Jr. landed a 21-pounder and Chris a 20-pounder. Patrick and Robert both landed a 14-pounder while Chuck landed an 11-pounder. I was really cheering for the group to come in with big fish and the whole group had a great trip all landing fish over 10-pounds.
Ron and Rita brought down the family for this adventure, Ron landed and two 21-pounders, his wife Rita landed a 23-pounder on the last day, and Scott landed a 17-pounder. Vaughn and Russell were a father and son team. They lead the beginning of the week in big fish but soon the others caught on. Vaughn landed a 22-pounder and his dad landed an 18-pounder.
Ace and Bill both landed 19-pound fish. Britt land Jeff both landed 18-pounders.
This group had it all in their favor: great water conditions, clear weather, being the first ones out there for the season, and above all lots of monster fish to go after. I want to first thank God for their safe return home and a great trip and to our guests for coming down and having their adventure of a lifetime.
Our Taxidermist is going to have his hands full with all these spectacular fish to mount.
From me and my staff we wish you a safe trip home and hope to see you back soon.
